In my years of exploring countless tuna spots, Jun Tuna (준참치 아는 집) near Mia Station has truly earned the title of an all-time favorite. Seriously, I was practically begging them to stop serving more tuna – it was that incredible! Let’s dive right into this extraordinary dining experience.

Location and Ambiance

Located just a short 5-minute walk from Mia Station Exit 4 in Seoul, Jun Tuna is a cozy, neighborhood gem. It’s a small establishment, featuring a few counter seats and a couple of private rooms. Don’t let its size fool you; this place packs a punch when it comes to quality and service.

Unforgettable Tuna Feast

From the moment I sat down, I knew I was in for a treat. We started with a delightful and sweet braised radish accompanied by a refreshing beer – the perfect appetizer. Next up was the tuna tataki, beautifully seared and seasoned, an excellent start to whet the appetite. However, I was saving myself for the main event: the tuna!

The chef quickly understood my eagerness and brought out a plate of tuna gut jeotgal (fermented seafood), a house specialty that added a unique and savory kick. Then came the first round of serious tuna – magnificent cuts of Bluefin tuna belly (참다랑어 뱃살). Any tuna aficionado would recognize the top-tier quality and selection of cuts presented. It was clear from the beginning that Jun Tuna was pulling out all the stops.

What followed was a truly memorable moment. The owner asked me to extend my palm and proceeded to pile an enormous stack of tuna on my hand for a one-bite experience. It was a playful and incredibly generous gesture, showcasing not only the quality of the tuna but also the warm and welcoming atmosphere of Jun Tuna.

We continued our culinary journey with a diverse array of tuna parts. There was the Yellowfin tuna belly (황새치 뱃살), also known as “Mekadora,” a favorite among connoisseurs for its rich flavor. Then came the tuna cheek meat, resembling premium beef sashimi in its appearance and texture – truly exceptional. It was evident that Jun Tuna strives to offer a variety of cuts to ensure a non-monotonous and exciting dining experience. They even presented torched tuna cheek, boasting an incredible sear and smoky aroma – almost like enjoying Wagyu beef!

Just when I thought the parade of tuna might slow down, a massive tuna head steak arrived, steaming hot and laden with succulent meat. It was another fantastic dish that perfectly complemented the constant flow of tuna. And no, the course wasn’t even close to being finished! What followed was an unrelenting tuna extravaganza, featuring only the finest cuts. Despite not being advertised as unlimited, the sheer quantity and quality of tuna were astounding. I was practically swimming in tuna!

The experience reached a point where I felt more tuna than human. Even the 승모근 area near my neck felt like it was transforming into Bluefin tuna kama-toro! Jun Tuna truly offers an unparalleled amount of top-quality tuna for the price. I honestly haven’t encountered a restaurant that comes even close to this level of generosity and quality at this price point.

Beyond Tuna: Ramen and More

Just when I thought I couldn’t eat another bite, they brought out Shin Ramyun! A perfect, spicy noodle soup to cleanse the palate. Following that, came Gimbap – seaweed rice rolls, generously sized and delicious. And as if that weren’t enough, they presented Maeuntang (spicy fish stew) and even more kama-toro! I was so full that, regrettably, I had to leave some of the kama-toro behind – a first in my dining history and something I still regret!

Final Verdict

In conclusion, Jun Tuna is an absolute must-visit for any tuna lover in Seoul. The quality, quantity, service, and price are simply unbeatable. Forget any notions of “Kim Sa-won privilege” – I went as a regular customer, ordered the ₩55,000 per person course, and was treated to this incredible feast. For drinks, we had a beer and a bottle of wine (corkage fee applied). If you are looking for the ultimate tuna experience without breaking the bank, Jun Tuna near Mia Station is the place to be.
