Dongeuria Korean BBQ Review: Must-Try Pork Neck and Skirt Meat in Daechidong, Seoul

Looking for delicious Korean BBQ in Seoul? Look no further than Dongeuria (돈그리아) in Daechidong! I recently visited this restaurant, highly recommended by a friend, and was thoroughly impressed with their pork offerings, especially the pork neck (목살) and skirt meat (갈매기살).

Location and Accessibility

Dongeuria is conveniently located in Daechidong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and is easily accessible by subway. It’s close to Seolleung Station (선릉역), making it a great choice if you’re using public transportation. If you’re familiar with the area, it’s also near the famous Nongmin Baekam Sundae (농민백암순대) restaurant.

Location: Daechidong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul (near Seolleung Station)

Accessibility: Excellent (Subway – Seolleung Station)

Atmosphere and Service

The restaurant has a typical Korean BBQ vibe, casual and bustling. While it was quiet when I arrived before 6 PM, it quickly filled up and became lively with the dinner crowd. The staff are friendly and provide excellent grilling service, cooking the meat to perfection right at your table. This is a huge plus, especially for those who prefer not to worry about grilling themselves and simply want to enjoy the food.

The Food: Pork Perfection

Mouthwatering Pork Neck (목살)

We ordered 4 servings of pork neck and 1 serving of skirt meat, along with “Dukkeobi” (두껍이) and “Sullito” (술리또) for a meal. The pork neck was incredibly flavorful and cooked in two stages: the leaner part first, followed by the fattier, more flavorful top part. This method allowed us to enjoy the clean taste of the lean meat before indulging in the rich, savory fat. I personally loved this approach to grilling pork neck!

The charcoal grill and mesh grill plate imparted a wonderful smoky flavor to the meat, which is definitely a highlight for charcoal grill enthusiasts. The restaurant offers various accompaniments, including Cheonga-al (청어알) sauce, wasabi, and pickled perilla leaves. While the Cheonga-al sauce added a unique savory and slightly salty flavor (though perhaps a bit too salty if you use too much!), I found that simple salt was the best way to appreciate the quality of the pork.

Delicious Skirt Meat (갈매기살) and “Dukkeobi” (두껍이)

The skirt meat was also fantastic – juicy and full of flavor. It was perfectly grilled, retaining its moisture and tenderness. “Dukkeobi,” a signature menu item, was described as a unique cut with skin attached, offering a chewy and satisfying texture. While the exact cut is a secret, it was a flavorful and less fatty alternative to pork belly, with the skin adding an interesting textural element.

마무리: “Sullito” (술리또) 된장술밥 – Savory 마무리

For a 마무리 (finishing dish), we ordered “Sullito” (술리또), a 된장술밥 (Doenjang-sulbab – 된장 stew with rice) that is cooked with butter and egg. It was a comforting and flavorful way to end the meal. The “Sullito” arrived as a simple 된장 술밥 initially, and then the staff added butter and egg, transforming it into a richer, smoother dish, almost like a Korean-style risotto. Adding basil, which is also provided, gives it a slightly fusion twist.

Overall Impression

Dongeuria is a fantastic Korean BBQ restaurant specializing in high-quality pork. The pork neck and skirt meat are must-tries, and the charcoal grilling enhances the flavor beautifully. The grilling service is excellent, and the location is very convenient. If you are a fan of charcoal-grilled pork and find yourself in Daechidong, I highly recommend visiting Dongeuria. Just be aware that there can be a waiting time during peak hours, and there might be a 2-hour time limit when it’s busy. But the delicious food is definitely worth it!
