(Euljiro Hidden Gems: A 70-Year-Old Local Favorite Food Adventure)
让我们一起出发吧!(Today, I’ll take you on an amazing 1st and 2nd course food tour in Euljiro. This journey allows you to taste dishes from restaurants with almost 70 years of history, and every dish is unforgettable. Are you ready to welcome this adventure full of delicious food and wine? Let’s get started!)
(Perfect Combination of Dak Gomtang and Fresh Seafood)
(The first restaurant to introduce is Byulmi House, located about a 7-minute walk from Exit 8 of Euljiro 3-ga Station. Look at those “old dads” occupying the area! There are hardly any young people here, and it is a gathering place for people who really know how to enjoy alcohol.)
(The interior of the restaurant has red chairs. In a comfortable space, the mental state is not relaxed at all. Let’s go straight in! The menu prices are quite affordable. To be honest, it’s rare to find such an affordable and delicious pub in Euljiro these days.)
(It was surprising to see an aquarium outside a Dak Gomtang specialty restaurant, but there was a reason for it. After ordering, before the food was served, they gave us a mussel soup as an appetizer. On the street stall street of Jongno 3-ga across the street, this dish costs 15,000 won, but here you can enjoy it as a free side dish.)
(Soon after, the restaurant served a vegetable salad with a fragrant sesame oil scent. This scent makes you want to drink a glass. Just at this mouth-watering moment, today’s first dish – Gwang-eo Saekkosi (thinly sliced flounder) was served. The price is 23,000 won. Considering the portion, the price is quite reasonable. Moreover, this restaurant’s thinly sliced flounder is cut quite thickly. Looking at the screen, you can feel the chewy texture.)
(Dip a little soy sauce and then dip it in plenty of chili paste. The key to thinly sliced flounder is the knife skills. It is said that the boss has been focusing on making Dak Gomtang for decades, and has developed excellent knife skills. Now, even raw fish fillets are handled with ease. In fact, the taste of this raw fish can be compared to the level of a Japanese restaurant.)
(Next is another great dish for drinking – Kkomjangeo Bokkeum (spicy stir-fried sea eel), priced at 15,000 won. Again, it is full of sesame oil flavor, which increases your appetite. The sea eel has a chewy texture and is stir-fried with a sweet and spicy sauce, which makes you want to drink one glass after another.)
(Among such hearty dishes, of course, you must order this restaurant’s signature dish to complete the picture. The highlight of today’s meal is this bowl of Byulmi House’s Dak Gomtang. Drinking a glass with the soup is simply enjoyable. The broth tastes just right, just sprinkle a little chives. The soft and tender chicken, paired with the chewy chicken skin, is a perfect dish for drinking. The broth is a rich chicken soup, but it is not greasy at all, and the taste is light and refreshing. This rich taste reminds me of chicken paitan in Japanese ramen.)
(Nostalgic Tastes of Tofu and Pork Dishes)
(Next, we are going to another restaurant not far away to start the second round of food tour. The second restaurant to introduce is Youngsimmin, located near Exit 8 of Jongno 5-ga Station. As soon as you enter the store, you will find that 99%, no, 100% of the customers are uncle-level guests, and the menu here completely suits their tastes.)
(This restaurant has two must-order signature dishes. The restaurant will provide side dishes, and the types of side dishes are different every day, so please note.)
(First is grilled tofu, the price is 10,000 won. When you come to this restaurant, you must order grilled tofu first, and then consider other dishes. The restaurant uses a handmade pot full of traces of time to carefully grill the tofu piece by piece on the table with sesame oil. It is said that they use their own sesame oil, which emits an intoxicating fragrance, as if you are in an old rural home in Gangwon-do.)
(The tofu is grilled golden and crispy on the outside, but soft and juicy on the inside. The taste is simply wonderful. This taste is like listening to hip-hop and ballad songs at the same time, wonderfully incomparable. One bite of tofu seems to feel the singing of Choi Baek-ho and Sung Si-kyung at the same time.)
(Next is another signature dish – Dwaeji Jjageuri (pork stew soup). The taste of this pork is amazing, and the aroma of meat fills the air. The soup is spicy and delicious, perfect as an appetizer. The lean and fat meat are interspersed, and the texture is chewy, making it impossible to stop.)
(Today, I introduced a 1st and 2nd course food tour hidden in the alleys of Euljiro. There is no gorgeous decoration here, and no elements worth showing off on social media. It is a restaurant that only truly discerning people will visit. If you want to get rid of your troubles temporarily, why not come here and indulge yourself.)

Google Search Results & Assessment
A quick Google search for “을지로 맛집” (Euljiro 맛집 – Euljiro restaurants) confirms that Euljiro is known for its hidden gems and older, more traditional restaurants. Many blog posts and articles highlight the area as a foodie destination, particularly for those seeking authentic Korean cuisine and a nostalgic atmosphere. The search results show a wide variety of restaurants, ranging from hole-in-the-wall establishments to more modern interpretations of Korean food. 별미집 (Byulmi House) and 영심민 (Youngsimmin) might not be the most widely known or highly-rated restaurants at the very top of the search results, but they appear to fit the overall profile of authentic, local-favorite spots that Euljiro is famous for. The blog post’s description aligns well with the general sentiment expressed in online reviews and articles about dining in Euljiro.
