Padojip: Seoul’s Ultimate Destination for Delicious Aged Yellowtail Sashimi in Jamsil
Hello everyone! Seojin here. Recently, I posted about a Yellowtail (Buri/Bang-eo) restaurant that was perfect for the season, and it received a great response. So, I’ve prepared another top-notch Yellowtail 맛집 (delicious restaurant) for you! This place is renowned as the best for 숙성 방어 (aged Yellowtail sashimi) in Jamsil, Seoul. Naturally, it’s also famous for its long wait times, making it one of the hottest spots on Instagram these days. Following my own advice on leveraging Instagram for restaurant discoveries, I visited Hong Gildong Hoeusan and was thoroughly satisfied. Let’s dive into the review of Padojip!
Padojip: Jamsil’s Premier Aged Yellowtail Destination
Padojip is located near Jamsil Station, Exit 10, in the Bangi Food Alley (방이 먹자골목), specifically on the right side of Sokcho Nosu. It’s slightly off the main street, offering a cozy spot amidst the bustling area. Padojip officially opens at 5 PM, but knowing it was a weekend, I arrived around 3:45 PM and received waiting number 2. The waiting system is unique – you line up upwards from the 2nd floor entrance of Padojip, floor by floor. By 4:30 PM, the queue had already reached around the 4th floor! After the first round of seating, they switch to a CatchTable system. Even at 7 PM, an hour and a half after opening, there were still approximately 35 teams waiting!
Location and Ambiance
Address: [To find the exact address, you would typically search online maps using “파도집 잠실” or “Padojip Jamsil”. As the text description is provided, you can use it to find the precise address for map embedding in a real blog.] Based on the description, it’s near Jamsil Station Exit 10, in Bangi-dong’s Food Alley. The restaurant’s popularity creates a vibrant and energetic atmosphere, filled with anticipation for the delicious seafood.
The Food: Aged Yellowtail and More
Padojip’s main menu features a variety of 회 (sashimi) options, including:
- 모듬회 (Assorted Sashimi)
- 참돔 유비키 (Seabream Yubiki)
- 숙성 대방어 (Aged Large Yellowtail)
- 숙성 광어 (Aged Flounder)
- 대삼치회 (Large Spanish Mackerel Sashimi)
They also offer set menus combining these options. Today, with a group of four (one woman, three men), we opted for the 방어 광어 세트 중 (Yellowtail and Flounder Set – Medium size). For four people, I’d actually recommend ordering the Large size. We ended up additionally ordering a small 모듬회 (Assorted Sashimi) later.
Dining Experience: Sets, Side Dishes, and Taste
Orders are taken while you wait, so as soon as we were seated, the sashimi was promptly served! We started with the 방어 광어 중 (Yellowtail and Flounder Set – Medium). The sashimi slices were thick and generously cut, perfectly aged, and beautifully presented with various garnishes. Apparently, the Large size would include another platter of this same size. The aging process truly enhances the rich, oily flavor unique to Yellowtail, which melts in your mouth. Combined with the thick slices, it was incredibly satisfying and flavorful – a truly perfect dining experience. The couples who had waited in line before us seemed to forgive me instantly upon tasting it! I can honestly say it was among the best aged sashimi I’ve ever had.
The Flounder (Gwang-eo) was also excellent, featuring the fin part (지느러미). It was skillfully aged, bringing out a delightful sweetness. The texture and sweetness of the Flounder were arguably even better than the Yellowtail in some aspects. Knowing some people don’t prefer the fin, I secured two pieces for myself, as it’s delicious dipped in 간장 (soy sauce) – I highly recommend trying it that way.
Padojip also excels in service. First, we were served grilled fish and grilled fish head as complimentary side dishes! My friend from the coastal city of Geoje speculated the grilled fish was gogi (mackerel), while the type of fish for the head remained a delicious mystery. Secondly, we received 육사시미 (Yuk-sasimi – Korean beef tartare) and 낙지 탕탕이 (Nakji Tangtangi – live octopus). The Nakji Tangtangi was a 영수증 리뷰 (receipt review) event bonus. The Yuk-sasimi was presented in a style reminiscent of Daejeon’s Taepyeongso Soup restaurants, making it perfect as a drinking snack throughout the meal. These two complimentary dishes provided a fantastic protein boost!
As we were eating, we felt like we needed a bit more sashimi, so we ordered a small 모듬회 (Assorted Sashimi). It was beautifully arranged with Yellowtail and Salmon in the center, surrounded by Flounder, Seabream, Yubiki, and Spanish Mackerel from the 12 o’clock position clockwise. The variety of sashimi was excellent, and it was a great opportunity to try Padojip’s signature items like Spanish Mackerel and Seabream Yubiki. Every piece of sashimi was thick, substantial, and perfectly aged – absolutely delicious.
Verdict: Is Padojip Worth the Wait?
In conclusion, Padojip is a 맛집 (delicious restaurant) that is absolutely worth braving even an hour-long wait before opening. The taste is a true reward for your patience. If you happen to miss the opening rush, putting your name down for a wait and heading to a second location for a pre-dinner drink is also a great strategy. Highly recommended for any sashimi lover in Seoul!
General Rating: 4.8/5 (Excellent)
