Jamsil Padojip: Experience Top-Tier Aged Winter Yellowtail (Bangeo) – Prepare for a Wait!
Hello seafood lovers! Seojin here, back with another incredible restaurant review. Following the overwhelming response to my previous Bangeo (winter yellowtail) post, I’m excited to introduce you to another gem: Padojip in Jamsil. This restaurant is renowned as the best spot for aged Bangeo in Jamsil, and yes, that reputation comes with equally impressive wait times! Recently gaining massive popularity on Instagram, Padojip lived up to the hype and exceeded my expectations.
Location and Ambiance
Padojip is nestled in Bangi Mukja Golmok (food street), near Jamsil Station exit 10. Specifically, it’s on the right side of Sokcho Nosu, a little off the main street, offering a slightly more secluded dining experience.
Address: [You would need to find the exact address if needed for a real blog post – based on description, it’s near Jamsil Station Exit 10, Bangi-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, South Korea]
The Waiting Game – Is it Worth It?
Padojip officially opens at 5 PM, but on weekends, be prepared to arrive early! I arrived at 3:45 PM on a Saturday and was already number 2 in the queue. The waiting system is quite unique – you line up on the stairs inside the building, starting from the 2nd-floor entrance. By 4:30 PM, the line snaked up to the 4th floor! After the initial rush, they switch to the Catch Table app for waitlisting. Even by 7 PM, a staggering 35 teams were still waiting. So, is the wait worth it? Absolutely!
Dive into the Menu – Aged Sashimi Heaven
Padojip specializes in aged sashimi, offering a delectable selection including:
- Assorted Sashimi (모듬회)
- Sea Bream ( 참돔)
- Yubiki (유비끼 – lightly seared)
- Aged Winter Yellowtail (숙성 대방어) – Highly Recommended!
- Aged Flounder (숙성 광어)
- Spanish Mackerel (대삼치회)
They also offer set menus combining these delicacies. Our group of four (three men and one woman) opted for the Bangeo & Flounder Set (Medium). For four people, I’d recommend going for the Large size, as we ended up ordering an additional Small Assorted Sashimi. The efficiency is impressive – orders are taken while you wait, so the sashimi arrives almost instantly upon seating.
Taste and Texture – An Unforgettable Sashimi Experience
The Aged Bangeo & Flounder Set was a masterpiece. Thickly sliced, perfectly aged, and beautifully presented with various cuts. The aged Bangeo was exceptional, with an intensified rich, oily flavor that melts in your mouth. The texture was firm yet tender, and the thick cuts provided a satisfying bite. Even the initially hesitant members of our group were instantly converted after the first bite! Truly, some of the best-aged sashimi I’ve had recently.
The Aged Flounder was equally impressive, especially the fin portion. The aging process brought out a delightful sweetness, and the texture was incredibly satisfying. In fact, I found the flounder’s texture and sweetness even more pronounced than the Bangeo.
Generous Services – More Than Just Sashimi
Padojip elevates the dining experience with fantastic complimentary services. We received:
- Grilled Fish & Fish Head: We believe the grilled fish was Atka mackerel (Don), and while the exact type of fish head remained a delicious mystery, both were fantastic additions.
- Yukhoe & Nakji Tangtangi: The Yukhoe (beef tartare) was presented beautifully, reminiscent of Daejeon’s Tae Pyung So Gukbap style, and paired perfectly with drinks. We earned the Nakji Tangtangi (live octopus) by leaving a receipt review – definitely worth it! These service dishes provided a welcome protein boost and enhanced the overall meal.
Final Verdict – Padojip is a Must-Visit!
Padojip is undeniably a 맛집 (delicious restaurant) that justifies the wait, even if it means “open running” (arriving before opening). The quality of the aged sashimi, generous services, and overall dining experience make it worthwhile. If you can’t snag an early spot, put your name down and explore nearby spots while you wait. Padojip is a Jamsil gem you don’t want to miss!
