Hello food lovers! Seoul Jinhong here, bringing you another culinary adventure! With the weather getting warmer, I recently discovered the perfect spot for a date night followed by drinks near the charming Gyeongui Line Book Street: Kkeutjip Sukseonghwe (끝집 숙성회). Don’t let the unassuming exterior fool you – inside awaits a delightful and recently relocated bar, bustling with patrons who know where to find exceptional aged sashimi.
Authentic 숙성회 (Aged Sashimi) Experience
Let’s dive into the review!
At first glance, you might think the portions seem small. However, what you see is pure, unadulterated sashimi. Unlike places that pad their plates with unnecessary fillers like shredded radish, Kkeutjip focuses on quality. Trust me, even two hungry adults will leave feeling satisfied. In fact, we were so full after our first visit that we had to leave some 안주 (side dishes) during our second round!
The star of the show at Kkeutjip Sukseonghwe is undoubtedly their thick-cut 숙성회 (aged sashimi). To truly appreciate the generous slices of aged Yellowtail (방어 – Bangeo), I recommend dipping it in 간장 (soy sauce). The aging process is expertly done, enhancing the natural umami flavors of the fish so much that it’s delicious even on its own. Of course, 찍어 먹는 (dipping) it in 초장 (gochujang – red pepper paste) is another classic and delicious way to enjoy it.
Daily Freshness and Variety
One of the reasons I keep returning to Kkeutjip is their daily changing selection of 회 (sashimi). You never know exactly what they’ll be serving, but you can always trust that it will be fresh and delicious. It’s this consistency and commitment to quality that makes Kkeutjip a reliable choice, no matter what type of fish is on offer.
During a previous visit, they even served domestic 우니 (sea urchin)! If you know Korean food, you’ll know domestic sea urchin is a pricey delicacy. For just ₩12,000, the portion was surprisingly generous. I’m really hoping they bring it back to the menu soon!
Sukseong Maki Rice and Kimchi Ramen 마무리
Don’t miss out on their 숙성 막기밥 (Sukseong Maki Rice). This isn’t your average white rice; it’s seasoned with vinegar, adding a delightful tangy flavor. Served with 김 (seaweed), it’s perfect for wrapping with the aged sashimi or enjoying on its own. It’s a unique and tasty accompaniment to the main event.
To finish off our meal like true Koreans, we ordered 김치 라면 (Kimchi Ramen). Even though we were already stuffed, we needed something soupy to complete the experience. The kimchi ramen was perfectly 칼칼한 (spicy and savory), providing a satisfying and 술 한잔하기 딱 좋은 (perfect for drinks) 마무리 (finishing touch). The noodles were also cooked just right!
Final Verdict: A True Sashimi Gem
In conclusion, Kkeutjip Sukseonghwe is a genuine 맛집 (delicious restaurant) that focuses on what truly matters: exceptional 숙성회 (aged sashimi). They strip away unnecessary frills and let the quality of their fish shine. The open kitchen and simple interior design reflect this dedication to authenticity and quality.
I highly recommend Kkeutjip Sukseonghwe for anyone seeking a fantastic aged sashimi experience in Seoul. I’ll definitely be back to explore more of their delicious offerings. Until next time, 맛있는 음식 드세요! (Enjoy delicious food!)
