Mugunghwa at Lotte Hotel Seoul: Exquisite Korean Fine Dining in Myeongdong – Perfect for Special Occasions

Nestled within the prestigious Lotte Hotel Seoul in the heart of Myeongdong, Mugunghwa offers an exceptional experience in Korean fine dining. This elegant restaurant provides a sophisticated ambiance and impeccable service, making it an ideal choice for special celebrations, business gatherings, or a memorable meal with family and loved ones. My recent visit to Mugunghwa provided a glimpse into its unique charm and culinary offerings.

Classic Elegance and Attentive Service

Mugunghwa boasts a classic interior, perhaps with a touch of old-world charm, which many find comforting and refined. The atmosphere is particularly well-suited for dining with an older generation or for occasions where a sophisticated and respectful setting is desired. The private dining rooms are spacious and comfortable, offering enhanced privacy for your gathering. I was particularly impressed by the attentive and genuinely kind service provided by the staff. The level of service is truly befitting of a top-tier hotel restaurant, creating a relaxed and enjoyable dining atmosphere.

A Taste of Refined Korean Cuisine

Mugunghwa offers a selection ofコース menus, with options to suit different preferences and budgets. During my visit, I opted for the 125,000 KRW course and also added the Hyojonggaeng soup. Here are some highlights from the meal:

  • Amuse-bouche: The meal began with delightful Jeonbyeong (thin savory pancakes) and a refreshing Jujube-Pine nut-Ginger juice. This has been a consistent and welcome starter for years, showcasing the restaurant’s commitment to quality and flavor.
  • Entrées: The Ueong Gangjeong (crispy burdock root) and Crab meat cold dish offered a pleasant mix of textures and tastes. The clam dumpling, though named so, was more like a flavorful beef dumpling served with a wonderfully clear and deeply flavorful seafood broth – almost like a hangover cure in itself!
  • Grilled Fish: The Jeju Tilefish with meringue and oyster jeon was a highlight. The tilefish was perfectly cooked, and the accompanying oyster jeon added a savory touch.
  • Main Course: For the main course, I chose the Grilled Sirloin, but after tasting the Hanwoo Bulgogi (Korean marinated beef) ordered by my companion, I must admit the Bulgogi was exceptional. Both were well-prepared, but the Bulgogi stood out for its flavorful marinade and tenderness.
  • Rice and Soup: My companion chose the Cheong-eoal Bibimbap (pollack roe bibimbap), which was a bit of a letdown compared to previous experiences, resembling more of a kimchi fried rice. However, for birthdays, the Bibimbap comes with a special presentation including Miyeokguk (seaweed soup), meat Gangjeong and Grilled Hairtail. I opted to try the Hyojonggaeng (additional 30,000 KRW), a historical Korean soup known as Korea’s first delivery food. This hearty and rich soup with excellent broth and generous ingredients like beef and abalone, was a star dish and a meal in itself!
  • Dessert: The meal concluded with a traditional Korean dessert platter featuring Bae-suk Sichye (pear simmered sikhye), Hangwa (traditional Korean cookies), and chestnut ice cream. The restaurant also offers personalized birthday desserts, adding a thoughtful touch for celebrations.

Perfect for Celebrations

Mugunghwa truly shines when it comes to celebrating special occasions. From personalized birthday messages on the window to complimentary Miyeokguk and extra desserts for birthday celebrants, the restaurant goes the extra mile to make guests feel special. This, combined with the elegant atmosphere and attentive service, makes Mugunghwa an excellent choice for birthdays, anniversaries, and other significant milestones.
