Mokpo, a charming port city in South Jeolla Province, South Korea, is renowned for its fresh seafood and unique regional cuisine. Recently, popular Korean personalities Park Na-rae and Pungja revisited Mokpo for their YouTube show “Ttoganjip” (Another Visited Place), reigniting interest in this foodie paradise. This time, they weren’t just revisiting old favorites but venturing deeper into Mokpo’s culinary scene to uncover even more hidden gems. First Stop: Gomjip Galbi and the Unique Bibim Suyuk
Their first stop was Gomjip Galbi, located in the Bukhang (North Port) area of Mokpo. This restaurant isn’t your typical Galbi joint. Gomjip Galbi is famous for its extraordinary dish: Bibim Suyuk. As described in the show, Bibim Suyuk is a delightful combination of Suyuk (boiled pork), spicy Bibim noodles, and flavorful grilled Galbi, often enhanced with fresh octopus.
Upon arrival, the hosts were initially surprised by the seemingly simple presentation. However, the taste quickly changed their minds. The Bibim Suyuk offered a unique blend of flavors and textures – the tender Suyuk, the spicy and tangy Bibim sauce, and the smoky Galbi creating a harmonious culinary experience. It’s not quite Makguksu or Bibim Guksu, but something distinctly Mokpo. They enjoyed the 돼지갈비 수육 무침 (Pork Galbi Suyuk Muchim) and 소갈비 수육 무침 (Beef Galbi Suyuk Muchim), highlighting the high quality of the Hanwoo (Korean beef) used.
While the price of 95,000 won was mentioned as being on the higher side, the hosts agreed that the unique and delicious flavor profile made it worth the splurge. If you are looking for an unforgettable culinary experience that is truly unique to Mokpo, Gomjip Galbi’s Bibim Suyuk is a must-try.

For their final destination, the team headed to Daemyeonggwan, a venerable restaurant with a 70-year history, situated near the Modern History Street intersection in Mokpo. Recommended by local residents and even Park Na-rae’s mother, Daemyeonggwan is celebrated for its Kkori Gomtang (Oxtail Soup) and Ganjang Gejang (Soy Sauce Crab).
The Kkori Gomtang at Daemyeonggwan truly stole the show. The broth was described as incredibly rich and deep, almost like a “potion” or “Mokpo’s health tonic”. Unlike typical Kkori Gomtang, Daemyeonggwan’s version boasts a clear, non-spicy broth, allowing the pure flavor of the oxtail to shine. They were amazed by the generous amount of tender, flavorful oxtail meat in each bowl.
Besides the Kkori Gomtang, they also sampled the Ganjang Gejang, which received rave reviews, and the 떡국 정식 (Tteokguk Jeongshik – Rice Cake Soup Set), particularly praising the rich broth of the Tteokguk. Daemyeonggwan was ultimately declared the top restaurant of this Mokpo revisit, solidifying its status as a culinary institution in the city.
